End of the season for Brampton Spartans Under 13s
Barnes Commercial Insurance Broker are proud to sponsor local under 13s football team, Brampton Spartans.
The team recently participated in the Hunts Youth League and played alongside 10 other teams located around the Huntingdon, Peterborough, and March region. Now that the season has come to an end, we caught up with the manager of Brampton Spartans, Nick Long, and learned about the highs and lows of the season.
Brampton Spartans finished fourth place in the league, with 13 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw. This equated to an incredible 68 goals scored over the course of the season, as well as 20 conceded goals.
The top goal scorers of the season were Hadriel, with 16 goals overall, Xavier, who only played five games and finished the season with 11 goals under his belt, and Reegan who scored a total of nine goals.
Nick said: “During February and March, we had a blip where we lost five games, it was 1-0 in every game, and it was really frustrating for us all. But we turned it around in May and scored 37 goals in 5 consecutive games!”

This improvement was likely due to the high turnout at the weekly training sessions held throughout the season by Nick and Spartan’s coach, Dave Slowe.
Additionally, many new players joined the team, which gave Brampton Spartans a total squad of 20 players.
Nick said: “The new players integrated well into the team and very quickly. But with such a big squad it became difficult as there was a lot of talent to choose from for each game. As only seven players took part in every game, and 15 were taken to a single match, it meant that we had to disappoint some of the players each week.”
Nick also mentioned that one of the players who joined mid-season is the younger brother of Jacob Mendy, a wing-back for Wrexham A.F.C. Jacob came along to one of the games, met the team and even got to see his younger brother score a goal, which was one of the highlights of the season for the team. They are all now hoping that Ryan Reynolds will make the journey to see the team too!
Now the season has come to a close, Brampton Spartans are enjoying some well deserved rest, ahead of their end of season awards evening which is coming up in the next few weeks. They will get to celebrate all their achievements with pizza and awards which will include the managers player award, the players player and top goal scorer.
Several players will also receive long service awards, as many have been with Brampton Spartans since they were a part of the under 7’s team. Nick commented: “the long service given by some of our players just shows how much they enjoy coming back year after year!”
Barnes Commercial would like to say a big well done to Brampton Spartans for their achievements this season, and best of luck for future games!
