Barnes Commercial Insurance Broker is delighted to be sponsoring local under 13s football team Brampton Spartans, in partnership with our sister company Lifesure.
Participating in the Huntingdon Youth League, the team are facing some tough competition this season, including Huntingdon Rowdies and Whittlesey Juniors. Spartans have got off to a flying start, with four wins out of the five league games played so far. It’s been a goal frenzy with 18 scored, and just four conceded.
Spartans manager, Nick Long, said he is really looking forward to a successful season. He said: “We’re first in the league at the moment and hoping we can stay in that position for as long as possible. It’s a tough league, and we’ve never won it, so maybe this is our time.”

The team are also playing in the Hunts County Under 13s Cup, which involves matches against clubs across the county. It’s a knock out competition with the first round of games due to take place mid November.
Nick said: “We’re training every week to make sure that we are ready to take on the competition. It would be a wonderful achievement to make it through to the cup finals later in the season and, who knows, maybe win the league!”
Nick and club coach Dave Slowe, are keen to ensure that the team players know it’s not all about winning though. Being a member of the squad is a good chance for players to develop their football skills in a competitive situation, work as team, have shared values of good sportsmanship and just to have fun, of course.
Nick and Dave have been with Spartans for more than five seasons, since soccer school, with many of the same players staying in the team over this time. There are now 20 players signed on (the biggest number ever) and so it’s a difficult decision for the management team, deciding who should start the game. At this level the games are competitive and all footballers are keen to play each week!

We will be following the progress of the team, through the highs (and lows), over the coming months and wish them every success in the league and the cup! Go Spartans.
